The anatomy of the perfect client

Someone once asked me to describe my idea of the perfect client. In some ways, this is a deeply philosophical question to answer because in the creative industry, our work is an outpouring of the passion in our souls. It’s not at all like working on a line where each piece that comes down is predictable and, in most cases, identical. Understand, I’m not decrying the importance of that line of work. But there is something innately different about the creative process that requires the heart of the creator to be open and passionate and expressive and willing to give itself away for the good of the creation.

My perfect client understands this and doesn’t bog down the conceptualization process with micromanagement. My perfect client realizes and appreciates that we are the experts in concept, design and marketing strategy development and that we have the client’s best interest in mind. And in heart. My perfect client believes and admits that this type of work is invaluable, because if it is done well, it can reap untold benefits related to brand recognition, revenue and growth potential. My perfect client asks my opinion and then listens to it, not second or third guessing it. And then implements it. My perfect client knows his or her industry intimately and is able to provide invaluable input into the discussions we have on market and target audience. My perfect client knows that the service we provide and the results of that service don’t come cheaply and so he or she budgets fairly and aggressively for the work we are about to perform. And my perfect client believes the words of Ronald Reagan when he said in his inimitable way, that it is amazing how much can get done, when no one cares who gets the credit.

Very interesting, I would add that the perfect client makes an effort to send you information on the market and rings you for advice wich down the road will influence the outcome of future work.
Keep up the good work, it is very important and I love the work you do.
